NBA DFS – 10/16/2018

NBA season is finally here, and with that more daily fantasy sports to talk about. To be successful in NBA DFS you have to watch news daily and make sure you get adjust your lineups accordingly. Luckily for us on DraftKings, they have switched back to locking each player at their individual game time. That at least gives us a chance to switch up when we hear about late scratches. I will be getting out my breakdown the night/morning of so make sure you check updates to make sure things haven’t changed since the article came out. Let’s jump in.

Only 2 games on this NBA season opener slate.
PHI @ BOS (-5) o/u 210.5

PHI:

Probable starters:

Markelle Fultz
Robert Covington
Ben Simmons
Dario Saric
Joel Embiid

Notable bench:

J.J. Redick
T.J. McConnell
Jerryd Bayless
Landry Shamet
Amir Johnson

Sixers are a bit shorthanded for the season opener with Muscala and Wilson Chandler both trending to be out for the game. Wilson is looking like the 7th man and Muscala looks to fill in as backup to Embiid with Amir Johnson. I would expect a few extra minutes for Embiid, Saric, and Cov in this one.

Tier 1: Embiid, Saric
Tier 2: Simmons, Fultz, Cov, McConnell
Tier 3: Redick
BOS:

Probable Starters:

Kyrie Irving
Jaylen Brown
Gordon Hayward
Jayson Tatum
Al Horford

Notable Bench:

Marcus Smart
Aron Baynes
Marcus Morris
Terry Rozier
Daniel Theis

Boston is one of the deepest teams in the league when they are all healthy. Usage is not split evenly though as Hayward and Kyrie will dominate most of the usage on the offensive end. I expect Baynes to get extra run to help guard Embiid in this one. Hayward is on a 25 minute restriction for the first couple weeks so more run for Tatum, Brown and the bench as well.

Tier 1: Horford, Kyrie
Tier 2: Tatum, Brown, Morris, Baynes
Tier 3: Smart, Rozier

OKC @ GSW (-13) o/u 220.5

OKC:

Probable Starters:

Dennis Schroder
Terrance Ferguson
Paul George
Patrick Patterson
Steven Adams

Notable Bench:

Nerlens Noel
Raymond Felton
Hamidou Diallo
Jerami Grant
Alex Abrines
Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot

The big news here is injuries. Russ was ruled out already so Schroder will be getting all the minutes he can handle. Adams is set to be a game time decision. If he sits then Noel becomes a must-play at only $3600. Paul George gets a huge usage bump with Russ on the sidelines and if this game stays close you can bet he will be part of the reason for it. The guard spots should get a bump here too and the one I’m most interested in is Hamidou Diallo. His minutes would only stand to rise if it becomes a blowout in the 4th.

Tier 1: PG, Schroder, Noel (if Adams is out)
Tier 2: Noel (if Adams plays), Adams (if he plays), Diallo (GPP)
Tier 3: Felton, Patterson, Grant

GSW:

Probable Starters:

Steph Curry
Klay Thompson
Kevin Durant
Draymond Green
Damian Jones

Notable Bench:
Andre Iguodala
Jordan Bell
Kevon Looney
Shaun Livingston
Jonas Jerebko

The defending champs are back and looking for their 3 peat this year. Curry gets a great matchup out the gate against what’s defense Dennis. KD has one of the tougher matchups this game against PG which makes me even higher on Steph. Klay relies on points for most of his production which makes him more risky of a play. Draymond may be limited with his knee injury so pay attention in case word comes out on that. If he plays 25-30 minutes it could be worth it in a GPP. Other than that if you need value then Damian is solid punt at minimum price. He could get a couple extra minutes if Steven Adams suits up as he is the only viable big guy on the roster to match his size on the glass.

Tier 1: Steph Curry
Tier 2: KD, Klay, Damian Jones (solid for GPP), Draymond, Jordan Bell
Tier 3: Iggy
